Former interim Nebraska football coach Mickey Joseph was arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of strangulation and third degree domestic assault. Police were called to a residence near South 34th and Tree Line Drive, but Joseph was arrested at a separate location. He was then taken to the Lancaster County Jail. The Lincoln police briefing scheduled for Thursday morning was canceled and there is no more information at this time.

The university’s athletic director, Trev Alberts made the following statement Wednesday,

“I was made aware of the charges against Coach Joseph and given the nature of the allegations and based on University policy he has been placed on administrative leave. We will have no additional comment at this time."

His arrest follows the hiring of the new Nebraska football coach, Matt Rhule.

In 1990, Joseph was arrested after trying to enter his girlfriend’s second-story apartment window. Police were later told there was a domestic dispute between the couple before the incident. No charges were filed.
