Diesel prices have hit a new peak, and truckers are among those feeling the immediate impact.

At a truck stop in west Lincoln, Deon Hines is filling up with some high-priced diesel and shared what he thinks.

“Ridiculous. But it’s necessary for the job, y’know?” he said.

The company he drives for, and ultimately their customers, will pay.

But high prices have already affected Hines.

“I actually had to stop driving my own truck, due to the surge in prices,” he said.

That was last year, before the latest surge during the Iran War. The Associated Press reported diesel hit a record $5.85 a gallon Friday, expected to raise costs for farming, food, and other goods transported by truck.

According to AAA, the average price of Diesel in Nebraska is $5.56 a gallon. A month ago the average price was $4.95, and one year ago the average was at $3.42.

Gasoline prices in the state have also seen an increase, with a current average of $3.90 for regular fuel compared to $2.99 a year ago.
