Nebraska head football coach Matt Rhule announced the firing of another assistant on Tuesday.
Rhule said he fired defensive line coach Terry Bradden. He also confirmed the hirings of offensive line coach Geep Wade, who came from Georgia Tech, and defensive coordinator Rob Aurich of San Diego State.
The new defensive coordinator talked football with him while they toured Lincoln, Rhule said.
“To me, that’s a lot of this job is like, anybody can prepare, anybody can present but who can think fast,” Rhule said. “Honestly, I was blown away. I canceled a couple of interviews. And just, (there were) a couple of people I wanted to talk to, in terms of references. But some of the most respected people I know said, ‘You absolutely need to hire this guy.’”
Aurich has a vision for succeeding in the Big Ten by playing fast and physical, Rhule said.
Junior defensive back Andrew Marshall played for Aurich at Idaho and recommended him to Coach Rhule.
Aurich recruited Marshall to Idaho. The cornerback called Aurich “rambunctious.”
“He just puts his guys in position to make plays,” Marshall said.
The news follows the firings of defensive coordinator John Butler and offensive line coach Donovan Raiola. The third-year head coach said there are no more firings for the 2025 season. The defensive line position remains unfilled, as of now.
Nebraska, which finished the season 7-5, will compete against 10-2 Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl on New Year’s Eve to end the season.
