Seven properties were damaged in Dodge County Monday night by what is believed to have been a tornado.
Dodge County Emergency Management issued a news release stating that the possible tornado touched down west of North Bend at about 5:30 p.m. Of the seven properties, two were occupied, and two people sustained minor injuries. They were treated on the scene by North Bend Fire and Rescue.
Staff from the National Weather Service’s Omaha office were out surveying the damage on Tuesday.
The potential tornado near North Bend was one of two reported Monday night as storms rolled across the state. The other possible tornado was reported near Du Bois in Pawnee County. There were no reports of damage or injuries.
Monday night’s storm also brought heavy rain to areas that also saw heavy rain Sunday night, leading to the potential for flooding.
The weather service issued a flood warning for the Wahoo Creek in Saunders County after an estimated 2-4 inches of rain fell around Prague and north of Malmo.
The weather service said the creek was expected to rise above flood stage Tuesday afternoon.
Saunders County Emergency Manager Terry Miller said officials were watching a 40-mile stretch of the creek for potential flooding.
“It takes a good day or two for it to go all the way from Prague down to Ashland,” he said.
Many areas of eastern Nebraska picked up anywhere from 2-3 inches of rain from the storms Sunday and Monday. Lincoln officially had about 2.3 inches, while Columbus received about 2.75 inches, and Fremont received nearly 3 inches.
There were also reports of large hail and high winds in Platte County, where a semi tractor-trailer was blown over on U.S. 81 north of Columbus.
