Members of Nebraska Task Force One are continuing search and recovery efforts in Kerr County, Texas, one of the areas hardest hit by July 4 flooding.
Around 120 people have been confirmed dead from Friday’s flooding across Texas and roughly 170 others are still missing.
Texas authorities are managing communication efforts, so updates are irregular, but Lincoln Fire and Rescue spokesperson M.J. Lierman said she has been told by Task Force One Program Manager Ashley Engler that because flood waters are receding, the Task Force is working in areas that were not previously searched.
Gov. Jim Pillen said in an update Thursday that the Nebraska personnel have been working alongside local response teams, the Texas Emergency Management Agency and other state search and rescue groups from Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Virginia. They have been split into two separate teams to help maximize coverage capabilities
Task force members arrived in Texas on Tuesday and are scheduled to be there for up to two weeks.
