A Nebraska state senator has been cited for public indecency related to an incident that allegedly occurred in May.
Nebraska State Patrol Spokesman Cody Thomas said the agency cited 59-year-old Dan McKeon on Thursday for public indecency, a Class II misdemeanor.
McKeon, who’s from Amherst, represents District 41 in central Nebraska. He was first elected to the seat last year.
Thomas said the incident for which McKeon was cited occurred May 29 at a party at the Lincoln Country Club, but it wasn't reported to law enforcement until sometime in September.
According to Thomas, a woman accused McKeon of unwanted touching of her buttocks on the outside of her clothing.
McKeon could not immediately be reached for comment Friday afternoon, but he told the Nebraska Examiner, “I’m not going to respond. Just like anything else, you just shut your mouth.”
At least one senator has already called for McKeon to resign. Sen. Megan Hunt said in a social media post that, “McKeon should have resigned from this office, which I never observed him to represent with dignity or professionalism, long ago.”
“Elected office is a public trust, not a shield for misconduct,” Hunt wrote.
