Nebraska 2nd District Rep. Don Bacon said on a new Our Republican Legacy podcast episode that he's mulling over a run for president in 2028.

When asked by the podcast host if he's considering running for the office, the Nebraska politician replied, "I won't lie. Yes, I would love to, but I would also just be happy to be the right-hand or the left-hand man to someone else that has the same values."

Bacon went on to reference instances in previous Republican administrations that showed bipartisanship.

"But in the end, I want our values to dominate in our party. And I think our country needs people who are not using the FBI, the IRS going through their adversaries, or the attorney general. We want people to be respectful. I like that Ronald Reagan had Tip O'Neill at the White House at times, and had a glass of scotch, right? I think we need leadership that stands as an example of decent humanity and represents Christian values."

The congressman said that there's a part of him "that wants to step out and take that risk," but he would also be interested in supporting another candidate, as long as he's an acting part of that campaign or future administration.

"But I definitely want to be on a team whether I'm the lead or part of the team, fighting for these values for our country because I think the United States needs them, and I think they are looking for them," Bacon said.

Bacon isn't seeking another term in office. That's led to a costly financial fight in Nebraska's 2nd District, home to the so-called "Blue Dot," where Bacon has often attempted to appear as a moderate politician. The purple district has often turned blue for presidential candidates but has continued to elect Bacon, a Republican.

Republican Brinker Harding, Democrat Denise Powell and Libertarian Eric Foreman are running this November in hopes of replacing Bacon.
