The U.S. Census Bureau has released its findings from the American Community Survey covering data from 2023 to 2024.

It found Nebraska, along with some neighboring states, had statistically significant drops in income inequality. That refers to the gap between the highest earners and lowest earners.

It’s estimated this drop is due to high employment rates across all demographic groups.

According to an analysis from the State Department of Labor, Nebraska’s unemployment rate during the survey timeline was 2.3%. That was the sixth lowest in the country. The state’s current unemployment rate is about 3%, which is lower than the national average.

North Carolina was the only state to experience a statistically significant rise in income inequality.

The same data also shows an increase nationally in the median household income.
