A snow removal program in Lincoln is in need of volunteers for the upcoming winter season.
Each year since 2012, volunteers called Snow Angels have lent their snow removal services to people in need across Lincoln.
The city has an ordinance requiring people to clear snow and ice from sidewalks by 9 a.m. the day after a snowstorm, which can be difficult for older adults and people with disabilities.
Erika Hill with Lincoln Transportation and Utilities said the Snow Angels program helps people comply with the ordinance and brings people together.
“Volunteering for Snow Angels is really not just about clearing snow; it's really about fostering a sense of community and making sure everyone can safely navigate our streets and sidewalks during the winter,” she said.
Hill says the program currently has over 60 volunteers and is always looking for more.
Anyone interested in volunteering can sign up on the Lincoln city website snow page and click on the snow angels icon.
People who need help with removal can also go to the city website to find the contact information for the volunteers.
