Nebraska Public Media reached out to elected officials from across the state for a series of interviews on topics important to their constituents. Those who represent the state had the opportunity to discuss a variety of topics during one-on-one interviews with reporters to share their opinions, experiences and how they’re working to represent Nebraskans.

President Trump is thinking about doing away with the Department of Education. Nebraska Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Flood said he’s open to the idea.

“If they want to decentralize the Department of Education, I’m open minded to the concept,” he said. “I just want to make sure that states have enough time to get their infrastructure set up and that they can provide the same services using the same resources that the federal government is providing now.”

Flood told Nebraska Public Media News education is done best at the local level as long as the federal government gives states adequate resources.
