The Buffalo Creek wildfire in western Nebraska is 80 percent contained as of this Friday morning.

A total of 2,600 acres have burned in Banner and Scotts Bluff counties. Numerous agencies have gathered in the Buffalo Creek Wildlife Management Area. The Banner County Fire Department and Nebraska Game and Parks continue to quench hotspots.

On Thursday, Nebraska National Guard helicopters helped by dropping water from above down onto the flames.

According to Nebraska Emergency Management, their goal is to have 10 yards between any hotspot and the perimeter of the fire.
