KUON-TV Lincoln Signal Upgrade
Summer 2026
August 3, 2026 Update:
The new antenna was placed on the tower the week of July 30, with the transmission line installation still in progress.
We currently estimate final completion by August 14, but that is subject to change based on weather conditions.
- KUON is still operating on the temporary, reduced-power antenna.
- Viewers can begin rescanning to see if they pick up the new signal.
- The temporary equipment being used during this construction phase will have less power, so some viewers may experience diminished signal quality until project completion.
In July, we began upgrading our broadcast signal for KUON-TV to provide a stronger, more reliable, over-the-air experience for Lincoln and surrounding communities.
To make these upgrades, crews are replacing the station's current antenna with a new modern version. Favorable weather conditions have allowed the crew to accelerate work on the project. We have dismantled the old antenna and KUON-TV is currently on the air with our new broadcast signal using temporary equipment at a lower power.
Viewers in Lincoln and surrounding communities will likely need to rescan their television sets in order to receive the new signal. Some viewers may not be able to receive the stronger KUON-TV signal until the project is complete and the upgraded signal returns to full power operation.
More information regarding rescanning can be found on the FCC website.
The signal upgrade is expected to especially improve reception for viewers who watch indoors with an antenna, particularly those who live in low-lying or dense urban areas.
This change is only for those who watch over-the-air with an antenna. It does not affect viewers who watch via cable, satellite or streaming services.
When work is complete, the new channels will display as:
- 12.1 - PBS
- 12.2 - WORLD
- 12.3 - Create
- 12.4 - PBS KIDS
- 12.5 - FNX (First Nations Experience)
