A Holistic Approach to Care discusses, with a panel of experts, end-of-life planning and includes discussion about hospice and palliative care. There are so many misconceptions about end-of-life care. These treatments take a holistic approach in the care of the patient, treating all the needs of the individual. A team will care for the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of a patient, with their needs front and center.
Panel of Experts
Dr. Anna Fisher serves as the Hillcrest Health Systems health, quality, and nursing services education expert. She is responsible for the implementation of educational and quality improvement programs following the identification of clinical and non-clinical needs, competency exams, and supporting the need for high quality of care for diverse business lines that include assisted living, memory support, adult day services, home health care, palliative, hospice, post-acute, and skilled nursing care.
Dr. Fisher is also an adjunct professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Bellevue University and teaches in the Masters-Health Administration Program. She was awarded the prestigious Maenner Award for Professorship of the Year in 2012.
Dr. Fisher is currently President of the Consortium of Dementia Alternatives and President of the Montessori International School of the Plains. She is a certified dementia practitioner, licensed nurse, and holds an undergraduate degree in human resources, graduate degree in business management, and a doctorate in health administration.
Tim Snyder joined Hillcrest Hospice Care in February of 2010 as the Spiritual Care Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator. In December of 2011, Tim accepted the position of Director of Patient and Family Services for the hospice team.
Tim served a local church in Grand Island, NE for 11 years as the Family Life Minister before heading back to his Alma Mater of Nebraska Christian where he served as the Director of Admissions and Athletics, along with teaching various college courses.
Tim graduated from Nebraska Christian College with a BS in Ministry and moved on to Cincinnati Christian Seminary, completing his MA in Education and Counseling. Tim grew up the great State of Nebraska, in the shadows of Memorial stadium in Lincoln. He has been married to his college sweetheart for 22 years and has two beautiful daughters. He enjoys playing golf, softball, and riding his bike.
Becky Walkowiak worked in oncology inpatient and outpatient settings from 1997 to 2003. Since 1989, she has been involved in Grief Recovery Programs, working with groups and individuals experiencing a variety of loss issues. She has given presentations to nurses and community organizations on topics related to cancer, palliative care, and grief. In 2003, Becky began her present position as Palliative Care–Hospice Nurse, HealthConnect at Home-Saint Elizabeth, incorporating her experience in nursing, counseling, and bereavement. She and the palliative care team work with patients and families during any stage of disease.
Becky graduated from Kearney State College and Saint Francis School of Nursing as an RN. She has a BA in Allied Health and MA in Counseling from Doane College.
Bob J. Bleicher, M.D. has been Medical Director of HoriSun Hospice since 2004. He is also responsible for call coverage at Lincoln Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine and is a member of the executive committee medical staff.
Dr. Bleicher’s previous experience includes private pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine practice in Lincoln from 1983-2006, Medical Director of Hospice Care of Nebraska from 1994-2004, Bryan LGH Medical Center from 1992-2006, and a quality reviewer for Sunderbruch Corp. of Nebraska from 1990-2003.
Dr. Bleicher has a Bachelor of Arts in biology and medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Dr. Bleicher is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and hospice and palliative care. He has been a quality reviewer for CIMRO Corp. of Nebraska since 2003 and a member of NHPCA since 1994.
