He was a man known by many names: James M. Riley; ‘Texas’ Jack Lyons; and ‘Gold-Tooth’ Charley. But today, he is perhaps most well-known as Doc Middleton. As a notorious figure he was different from many other folk heroes of the American West because Doc Middleton didn’t want gold, glory, justice or vengeance - he just wanted to survive.
