As part of the nation’s Bicentennial, Nebraska transformed Interstate 80 rest areas into cultural gateways, installing now-iconic sculptures through a partnership between the Nebraska Department of Transportation and artists. Commissioned amid a national push for public art, these large-scale works reflect the state’s landscapes, history, and identity and turn rest stops into open-air galleries for travelers crossing Nebraska.
