Born in Hebron, Beverly Deepe Keever graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1957 with a double major in journalism and political science. Since her childhood, she held a strong curiosity of foreign lands and in February of 1962, at the age of 26, Beverly arrived in Saigon (then the capital of South Vietnam). She soon began covering the escalating conflict, sometimes being the only available American war correspondent to get the story. Her articles were often picked up by the Associated Press and later she wrote for national magazines. Beverly often put herself in harm's way and her first-hand account of the Battle of Khe Sanh was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Beverly Deepe Keever covered the war for seven years making her the longest serving American correspondent during the Vietnam War.
