Two Nebraska State Penitentiary escapees found themselves struggling to survive when they chose the wrong day for their breakout. It was the winter of 1949 and a huge blizzard was sweeping through Nebraska. The men took shelter in a haystack, but the frigid cold proved too much. They made it to the farm of Herb Hrnicek's parents, who allowed the frozen men to enter their home. Once thawed, the convicts where taken to the town of Dwight where the local women stuffed them with a delicious food until the storm blew over.
