Steamboat Trace

Nebraska Stories

Air Date: 04/13/2010

The Steamboat Trace stretches 21 miles along the Missouri River, guiding adventurers from the vanished town of Minersville to the bluffs near Brownville. At its heart is Peru and the Rollen Sherman Memorial Area, where stone carver Rollen Sherman left his mark with imaginative cliffside carvings. This is where Lewis and Clark once passed, where names from generations remain etched in stone, and where forests shelter rare treasures. Among them grows the pawpaw, sometimes called the "poor man’s banana," offering its fleeting fruit to those curious enough to find it. A trail where history and nature invite discovery at every turn.
