The Lied Jungle has made a huge impact on Nebraska tourism and Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo. Dr. Lee Simmons' vision of a completely immersive attraction was different than nearly any zoo in the world. In April 4th, 1990, the Lied Jungle opened to the public. It transported Nebraskans to a humid world of the rainforests of Asia, Africa, and South America. 80 feet tall, full of plants and animals from around the world, it was something Nebraska had never seen before. Immediately after the Jungle's debut, attendance at the zoo doubled and paved the way for other attractions. Soon, the Scott Aquarium, Desert Dome, Kingdoms of the Night, and African Grasslands, attracted even more visitors. Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo consistently ranks one of the best in the world.
