The Platte River –Official State River People have followed the Platte River westward from wagon wheels to car tires. Our official state river has guided people along its stunning 310 miles. The Platte begins in Wyoming and Colorado in two separate rivers…the North and the South and merge near the city of North Platte. The Platte has grown our farms and our cities along its banks. On Feb. 26, 1998, the Platte River was declared to be the official state river.
