We all know that the golden rod is Nebraska's state flower, but did you know it's also the state flower of Kentucky and the state wildflower of South Carolina? The golden rod has been described as a weed, an herb or a wildflower, and it's often blamed for causing hay fever. It became the state flower in 1895, as it represents the pioneering spirit because of its ability to thrive in less than optimal conditions.
