Currently known as the Blackstone Center and remodeled to hold office space, the Blackstone Hotel in Omaha was built in 1916 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. In the 1920s, it was known nationwide as the preimiere hotel between Chicago and San Francisco along the Lincoln Highway. Some of the amenities included a fleet of limousines, its own magazine, ballroom, rooftop gardens, and award-winning restaurants. One of those restaurants gets credit for introducing butter brickle ice cream, and, arguably, the first reuben sandwich to the world. Thank you, Blackstone, for these delectable food inventions!
