Chris Helzer, Director of Science and Stewardship for the Nebraska Nature Conservancy, is a man who wears many hats - scientist, photographer, writer, and prairie enthusiast. Through his photography, Chris reveals the vast numbers of tiny and remarkable creatures inhabiting Nebraska's grasslands. Then, Chris joins program host Carlee Moates in our studio to share more about his approach to environmental conservation and spirit of inspiring others with a sense of wonder for the prairie. We head outside to visit a hidden gem tucked alongside one of Lincoln's busiest corridors. Aldersgate United Methodist Church transformed its traditional 2-acre lawn into a thriving native prairie garden that's alive with birds, butterflies, pollinators, and open to the public. Then enjoy the timeless, rugged beauty of Fort Robinson State Park in northwest Nebraska, one of our state's most treasured historic landmarks.
