Team U.S.A. Wrestling’s Senior World Team Trials are this weekend at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. Qualifiers from the event will compete at the Wrestling World Championships next month in Oslo, Norway.

Current University of Nebraska-Lincoln wrestler Christian Lance won’t travel far for a chance at making the World Team. Former Husker national champion and Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs will attempt to qualify for the Senior World Team. Other former Huskers competing are James Green, who is trying for his sixth year on the World Team, Tyler Berger, and T.J. Dudley.

UNL head wrestling coach Mark Manning said competing for the Senior World Team is wrestling’s version of N.F.L. football.

“All these guys have always aspired not only to be All-Americans or National Champion wrestlers collegiately, but once their college career is over, they want to compete on the highest level,” he said…”We’ve really been blessed to have a lot of good guys come through here.”

Military and first responders will get free entry to all sessions of the event, to honor the 20th anniversary of 9-11. Valid military, police, or firefighter identification can be shown at the arena’s ticket office for free entry.

Manning said Lincoln has hosted wrestling events like this before and it’s a great opportunity to see the best wrestlers in the world.
