U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins visited the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center Saturday morning alongside members of Nebraska’s congressional delegation.
Rollins toured the Klosterman Feedlot Innovation Center, part of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s extension near Mead, guided by UNL Agricultural Research Division dean Derek McLean.
“There is no doubt that the University of Nebraska is a crown jewel in a constellation of very impressive land grant universities, but I have long loved and followed the Cornhuskers,” Rollins said following the tour.
She touted the White House’s agriculture agenda including an extension of the clean fuel production tax credits, stopping an inheritance tax increase and working on trade deals with South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan. She also highlighted the administration’s priorities in funding research.
“A big part of USDA’s work is to ensure that we are funding the appropriate and intentional work that's going on out there that will help our agriculture industry and our farmers and our ranchers, not some of the crazy things that were funded in the last administration.”
This was Rollins’ second trip to Nebraska as Secretary of Agriculture. She visited the state in May to announce a pilot program that would keep soda and energy drinks from being purchased through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
