The Nebraska Department of Transportation will unveil two new signs Thursday that designate U.S. Highway 20 as the "Nebraska Medal of Honor Highway."
Nebraska Medal of Honor Foundation President Darryl Harrison said the project is one of the most honorable things he has ever been a part of. He says everyone who has worked on the project has been passionate about honoring medal of honor recipients.
"When we talk about medal of honor recipients there is nothing higher, not in the world of the military," Harrison said. "Everyone working on this project has been such a joy to be around. I have been so blessed just to be around such wonderful people."
Nebraska is the fifth state to formally adopt the Medal of Honor name for U.S. 20, which stretches across the northern portion of the state. The highway starts in Newport, Oregon and ends in Boston, Massachusetts.
Thursday's unveiling will take place at 10 a.m. at Siouxland Freedom Park in South Sioux City.
