An infectious disease expert who has monitored COVID-19 cases in Nebraska says our peak likely came the week ending May 9, when there were more than 3,200 positive cases across the state.
There were 677 cases on May 7, the most for one day.
Dr. Ali Khan is the Dean of the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Public Health.
He says that doesn’t mean we won’t have disease flare-ups over the next few months.
"It looks like we've reached our peak and it's come down again, unless some other meat packing plant or a bunch of nursing home facilities go hot," Khan said.
Since May 7, the highest single-day case total in Nebraska was 448 on Saturday.
Last week, there were just under 2,000 total cases reported with a positivity rate of almost 10%. The positivity rate for the week ending May 2 was almost 25%.
