Colleges around the country are making their libraries more tech-friendly. The University of Nebraska at Kearney is following the collegiate-trend, with plans to make major improvements to its library. The $25 million renovation project will modernize the facility, putting less emphasis on physical books and more emphasis on new technology and spaces for individual and group study.

Communications director Todd Gottula said they are hoping the library helps with recruitment efforts at UNK.

"Anytime a library gets needed renovations it is exciting for a campus community. It is the heart of campus and is an area where a lot of people spend a lot of time. So to be able to make improvements to a space that is used so much is always exciting for everybody.”

The proposal for the modernized library is expected to be presented to the Board of Regents in October. Once approved, construction could start in early 2022.
