The University of Nebraska-Kearney's football program will enter a two-year probation period following an NCAA investigation into a violation of recruitment processes.
According to the investigation document, in 2021 and 2022 former coaching staff for the Lopers paid for one-way airfare for six prospective players, as well as “interim lodging” for one of the prospects after arriving on campus. The benefits for visiting prospects totaled $1,872.
The NCAA said the violations weren’t just in the hands of the football program, but that the university failed to properly oversee the recruitment process.
UNK will not only enter a probationary period, it was also fined $3,744 and will face a reduction in official visits during the two upcoming 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years.
The NCAA also said there were three recruits who competed in 32 games combined. The organization is requiring UNK to vacate their wins and records from the games the ineligible players participated in.
