The University of Nebraska-Kearney says it will delay the start of fall sports to September 28th and some of the school’s football games could be played in the spring. Football, volleyball, cross country and women’s soccer, golf and tennis will all start later than planned because of the pandemic. The football schedule will start October 3rd, three weeks later than planned. The team will likely play seven games in the fall and could play four games in the spring with teams who won’t play fall football. UNK athletic director Marc Bauer this is unprecedented.

“We’re making these decisions and we don’t even know the decisions we are making, if they’re going to be legit by the next week,” Mark Bauer, UNK’s athletic director said. “So many things are changing on so many levels.”

Bauer does expect some fans at homes games, but wants to make sure they’re safe.

“We have to look at our practices, what we’re doing, how we’re doing it and just make sure that we’re providing that safe atmosphere for our fans, those that do come.”

UNK plays in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, which has delayed the fall season for all of its member schools. Also, Northeast Community College in Norfolk has announced fall sports will be moved to the spring.
