Nebraska’s preliminary unemployment rate for September dropped to 3.5 percent. The Nebraska Department of Labor said the last time the rate was below 4 percent was in February, before the pandemic took hold.
Commissioner of Labor John Albin says Nebraskans are moving in the right direction but warns unemployment goes up during the winter season as seasonal jobs shut down.
“Given the pandemic is out there, we're not back yet to where we would hope to be when the pandemic is fully over," he said.
September’s rate is half a percent lower compared to August but still higher than in September 2019. Non-farm employment also reached over one million, a first since March of this year.
