Thousands of Nebraskans still without power following winter storm

Thousands of Nebraskans woke up on the first day of spring Thursday without power as crews continue work to restore service after blizzard conditions struck the state Wednesday.
Some areas of eastern Nebraska received up to a foot of snow, paired with wind gusts as high as 70 mph that closed Interstate 80 across most of the state.
According toOmaha Public Power District’s outage map, as of Thursday morning there were still 34,673 customers without power. The majority were in Douglas County, with 15,593 outages.
At around 2 p.m. Wednesday, there were nearly 100,000 OPPD customers without power.
Nebraska Public Power District provided an update Thursday morning saying that 1,200 customers without power.
The majority of the outages were in Oakland, where 692 customers remained without power. At the peak of the storm, NPPD had over 11,000 customers without power.
The City of Lincoln provided an update Thursday morning saying the snow emergency and accompanying parking bans ended at 9 a.m.
Crews were set to continue to address trouble spots and service requests throughout the day, and plowed streets were mostly dry. Untreated streets were partially snow and ice covered with melting occurring in sunny areas.
The statement added that drivers should be alert for slick spots and refrozen areas.
