Tax agreement would extend unemployment benefits

The average unemployment payment in Nebraska is between $250 and $260 dollars a week. Thousands are no longer receiving those payments because emergency unemployment benefits provided by the federal government ran out at the end of last month. Extending those benefits is part of a compromised tax agreement expected to go before Congress this week. Senator Ben Nelson approves the deal, although many other Democrats have been critical.
