A sophomore at Bryan College of Health Science in Lincoln is among the first wave of Nebraskans to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Although 19-year old Kaylee Voss is not at high-risk herself, she has worked as a phlebotomist at Bryan Hospital since March and was able to receive the vaccine because of her work on the frontlines of the pandemic.
Voss said she was grateful to be one of the first in the state to get it, although she was a little skeptical at first.
"With this whole pandemic going on, everyone just wants it to be over. I think [getting the vaccine] is definitely a big first step," Voss said. "So being able to actually be someone who gets it and sees what happens, I’m thankful for it."
Voss said she has been around many COVID-positive patients in her last 10 months on the job.
She says through working at a hospital during the pandemic she realizes now more than ever how important the health care field is.
