PowerSchool, a school support software, is notifying families and teachers impacted by a data breach that occurred in late December.

The software is working with the credit reporting agency Experian. Those impacted will receive an email from Experian.

It remained unclear Monday how wide the breach is. PowerSchool serves more than 50 million students across the country. Several schools across Nebraska have notified families of data being accessed, including districts in the eastern and central part of the state.

For those impacted, PowerSchool and Experian are offering two years of free identity protection services. Adult students and educators will also have access to two years of free credit monitoring.
