The Secretary of State announced that a referendum to repeal or keep tax credit-funded scholarships for private and religious scholarships would stay on November’s ballot.
This comes in response to Senator Lou Ann Linehan’s request that the referendum be removed, saying it is unconstitutional because it interferes with the Legislature's constitutional ability to tax. Secretary of State Bob Evnen said Linehan’s concerns are outside of his office’s role, and should be heard by the courts.
Support Our Schools led the petition drive to get the referendum on the ballot. The group needed at least 61,308 signatures. County election officials verified 91,861.
