Nebraska’s ballots are set for the November election.
Secretary of State Bob Evnen announced Friday he has set the final list of candidates and ballot measures for the Nov. 3 general election.
“County election offices and the Elections Division have done an excellent job verifying petitions and ensuring candidates were properly filed so that we could certify the general election ballot on time,” Evnen said in a statement Friday. “We are confident that all the appropriate checks have been completed and confirmed despite the rather unusual number of issues we faced this year.”
The ballot certification comes after weeks of fraud allegations and court battles seeking to either keep candidates or petition initiatives on or off the ballot.
All three statewide initiatives – two seeking to legalize online sports gambling and one that would enshrine a ban on transgender sports participation in the state constitution – are currently under investigation by Attorney General Mike Hilgers and Lancaster County authorities due to a large number of potentially fraudulent signatures, as are three Lincoln charter amendments
The transgender sports participation initiative also still faces a court challenge, with the Nebraska Supreme Court set to hear arguments Sept. 30.
In addition to the three ballot initiatives, Nebraska voters will also decide on a constitutional amendment expanding term limits for state lawmakers from two consecutive terms to three consecutive terms.
The ballot certification only includes statewide candidates and initiatives, not local issues such as the Lincoln charter amendments or bond issues in Douglas County.
The final day to register to vote online, by mail, or at a state agency (DMV, DHHS, or Department of Education) is Oct. 16, and the final day to register in-person at a county election office is Oct. 20.
In-person early voting runs from Oct. 5. to Nov. 2.
