A second inmate who had tested positive for COVID-19 has died at a Lincoln hospital. The inmate, who was in his 60’s, tested positive for COVID-19 before entering the hospital weeks ago, but also had multiple underlying health problems.

The inmate died on Sunday. The actual cause of death is still being determined and a grand jury will review evidence in the case.

This is the second Nebraska inmate to die after a COVID-19 diagnosis. The first inmate passed away last month. He was in his 50’s and also had other underlying health problems.

Around 250 inmates have been diagnosed with COVID-19 so far and 218 of them have recovered, according to the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
