A Beaver City man has joined the Space Force, the newest branch of the U.S. military, last month.

Dalton Dempcy lives in south central Nebraska and said the branch was established in 2019 and protects the "ultimate high ground," including satellites in space.

"Just making sure that the U.S. is able to use space, and all of the advantages that come with space power, and making sure that we're able to continue doing that into the future," he said.

Dempcy graduated from Southern Valley High School in Beaver City four years ago, joined the Air Force in 2018, and now works as an Intel Analyst for the Space Force. He gathers information for intelligence reports that may be used for military operations.

The rural Nebraskan said he’s humbled to take on the role.

"It's very cool to get to see this part of the military and get to have this sort of experience, especially coming from small town Nebraska," he said.

Dempcy said there’s no limit to where you can go and anything you can set your mind to is possible.
