Repairs Coming Slowly in Boyd County

Many residents of Boyd County are still without drinking water as repairs continue following severe flooding last month.
The breaking of the Spencer Dam took out the water line which feeds most of Boyd County. Two refurbished wells of Boyd County farmers are being used to get water to the area. However, this water isn’t drinkable, so bottled water is being used for drinking water.
Gail Spencer of the Boyd County Rural Water District said the conditions are getting better, but the repairs haven’t been easy and are happening slowly.
“It’s been raining yesterday and today, and that’s tearing up the roads," Spencer said. "They have been trying to get the roads patched. The main highway was lost when the dam went out, so they’re using a gravel road across a bridge south of Lynch and it’s really, really hard on that road.”
Spencer said gravel and rock are being used to repair the local roads which were washed out during the flooding. A GoFundMe page, started to raise money for the repairs, has raised 21-thousand dollars as of Thursday.
