A legal group that says its fighting extremism is taking a populist political group to court for claiming Nebraska State Sen. Megan Hunt is “grooming” her transgender son.
The Nebraska Legal Action Fund says it filed litigation against the Nebraska Freedom Coalition and its executive directors for refusing to retract statements they say defamed Hunt.
A “groomer” refers to an adult who wants to exploit or abuse impressionable children - but has been widely used by people critical of transgender health care to refer to people who support it.
In its legal brief, the Nebraska Legal Action Fund says after the Nebraska Freedom Coalition’s posts, Hunt received calls and emails from individuals threatening bodily harm, with one even suggesting she be publicly executed.
The Nebraska Freedom Coalition and its members have been unrepentant in their views that transgender surgery on minors is equivalent to child mutilation.
When originally asked by the Action Fund to retract their statements, the Coalition tweeted the following:
In light of these accusations against us, we want to start with an apology.

We’re so sorry for calling Megan a groomer for actively transitioning her daughter to a son while simultaneously advocating for the right to chop the breasts off her “son”. Definitely NOT groomer… https://t.co/N1akEqpQDt
