Warm, dry, and windy weather throughout western Nebraska and the panhandle are the reasons there’s an elevated risk of wildfires Thursday.
Bill Taylor with the National Weather Service office in North Platte said people in this region of the state should be careful.
“Being vigilant and not tossing like cigarette butts or anything like that out the window, small things that could get something started,” Taylor said. “People that are burning trash or brush or things like that, be real careful, maybe wait till another day.”
According to the National Weather Service, the counties of Garden, Deuel, Keith, Perkins, and Chase, along with the southern panhandle could be affected.
