The Nebraska Alliance for Conservation and Environmental Education (NACEE) is building its next Future Leaders cohort, and looking for more people to join.

The Future Leaders Program is geared towards Nebraska college students who are part of historically underrepresented groups within the fields of environmental education and conservation. Students who take part in the program will be paired with a NACEE board member for mentorship and be given a $500 scholarship.

“The outdoors can be intimidating to people, and so when you have representation of somebody you can identify with, it can increase your level of comfort,” NACEE Board Member and Future Leaders mentor Alie Mayes said.

The goal of the program, according to Mayes, is to help those who may not feel represented currently, become that representative for those to come.

“We just want to make sure that we have a diverse group of people in the state who are pursuing environmental education, in order to serve our audience,” Mayes said.

The deadline for applications is Friday, Oct. 4. More details can be found at the Nebraska Alliance for Conservation and Environmental Education’s website.
