Officials announced on Thursday that the Omaha Children’s Museum has plans to move to Omaha’s RiverFront area by late 2027.

The current proposed plan for the project features a 76,000 square foot building that will be four floors and located at the intersection of South 8th Street and Douglas Street.

The building will be designed in tandem by Omaha’s Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture and Norwegian architectural firm SNØHETTA, the same company that designed the new addition to Omaha’s Joslyn Art Museum.

According to their website, they are partnering with the nonprofit Heritage Omaha, as well as Ohio experience design company ROTO to design and plan what will be inside the museum.

“We actually have a survey that we're running between now and December 13th that we welcome people who have children and then children themselves to respond to,” said Vice President of Market and Communications at the Omaha Children’s Museum, Andrew Mattson. “We're trying to kind of get a finger on what exhibits people love, and that will help guide us to determine what we will take with us or what we’ll maybe give a new fresh look at for in the new building.”

The survey can be found on the Omaha Children's Museum website.
