An Omaha-based chamber of commerce is working to help students prepare to be successful in their professional lives.

The Midlands African Chamber of Commerce is the only Black chamber in Nebraska. The chamber is teaming up with the Y.E.S. Outreach Center for the first SUIT UP program on Saturday.

Students who attend will be given suits and other business attire, resume critiques, and job interview training. Chamber President Karine Sokpoh says the event is filling a void in the community.

“We have a lot of children in our state, especially in our urban areas, that just do not have the mentoring, they do not have the role models, they do not have the support that they need in order to see themselves as professionals," she said.

The clothing was donated by members of the Omaha business community. The event starts at 10 am Saturday at the Y.E.S. Outreach Center, located at 2602 Harney St. in Omaha.
