An animal advocate group is heading to Louisiana to help rescue animals stranded in floodwaters from Hurricane Ida.
Joy Bartling has led dozens of rescue trips across the country for Scatter Joy Acres. This time her mission will take her to southeast Louisiana, in some of the places hardest hit by wind and flood damage.
"The animals are hurting. The people are hurting. The supplies aren't down there, and we have supplies here, so let's make the move and make it happen," Bartling said.
She and another volunteer are leaving for the Gulf Coast Wednesday evening. Bartling put a call out to the community for people to donate supplies that she can bring along to the struggling shelters. The Scatter Joy Acres founder said many people answered the call.
"It's amazing how a community can come together and help when people are in need, and I can only hope that if anything every happened to us here, that people would step up and do the same for us here at Scatter Joy Acres," Bartling.
The group is preparing to bring back more than a dozen animals from their mission to help alleviate stress on organizations in the South. Bartling says they'll have a home on its ranch in Omaha.
