Offutt Air Force Base selected as home for 95th Wing

Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue will soon house the U.S. Air Force’s 95th Wing.

Nebraska's Congressional delegation made the announcement Tuesday. Charles Hoffman, a spokesperson for the Air Force Global Strike Command, said the new wing increases the scope and responsibility of the existing nuclear communications unit.

“We're putting a bigger emphasis on nuclear communications, command and control, and that this will allow us to do things better, more efficiently, for the Air Force and for the country, to deter our adversaries," he said.

Sen. Deb Fischer, who serves as Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the Air Force’s decision reinforces Nebraska’s status as the center of gravity for nuclear communications, command and control.

"Nebraska is proud of our leading role in America’s national defense," she said.

Congressman Don Bacon, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said the new wing is the culmination of hard work by the Air Force and Nebraska’s Congressional delegation.

"This new wing will strengthen the command control of America’s strategic nuclear deterrent and provide significant economic benefits for the greater Omaha region in the years ahead," he said.

The wing is expected to add around 70 personnel to the base and be fully operational by January.
