The Nebraska Public Power District Board of Directors recently approved a 2% retail rate increase for 2025. There will be no overall increase for wholesale rates.

The increase will add an estimated $3.25 to the average residential customer’s monthly bill, according to NPPD. Even with the increase, NPPD remains in the lowest 15% of service providers based on its basic retail rate.

“We are incredibly proud of the stable rates we have provided our retail customers over the past 11 years, and the ability to continue serving our customers with some of the most affordable and reliable power in the country, with our retail rates sitting at approximately 45% below the national average.” NPPD General Manager of Retail Services Pat Hanrahan said in a press release Friday. “Similar to other utilities across the country, NPPD continues to experience cost pressures related to inflation, supply chain constraints, material cost increases, and increases to fleet and facility costs. All factors driving the need for an increase to retail base rates.”

This is also the eighth straight year without a wholesale base rate increase, according to NPPD.
