North Omaha’s 10th Annual Christmas in the Village celebration kicks-off tomorrow between noon and 3 p.m.
Director of Operations for the Empowerment Network Vicki Quaites-Ferris said in order to follow social distancing guidelines and mask mandates, the event will be drive thru only between 24th & Burdette Street.
"We thought the best way to do that was to take the concept that several folks have been doing even during Halloween, and that is to have a drive thru event," she said. "And so with that, we still can host Christmas in the Village. It just looks different."
Quaites-Ferris said there won’t be any carriage rides and boutique shopping, but there will be holiday balloons, live music, and online shopping instead. Santa will be waving at cars and visitors will receive a bag full of treats.
"So we really wanted to and felt it was important to continue the tradition so that it wouldn't stop," she said. "And that our children still would be able to have some form of memory of Christmas in the Village."
Christmas in the Village is presented by Empowerment Network and Omaha Economic Development. The event will also be livestreamed on Facebook.
