The Central Nebraska Sports Complex, a youth sports complex, will be built in Grand Island. Construction on the $15 million project is scheduled to begin in 2022.

Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation President Dave Tayler says the complex will boost the economy in the area.

“More than likely you’re going to have two or three other family members that come with and potentially are going to spend a night or two nights in Grand Island,” Tayler said, “potentially buying food, so our F & B taxes, and then also maybe fuel and just general retail shopping.”

Taylor says this complex will be a great way to bring in non-local consumers to the central Nebraska area, especially considering the complex will be just off Interstate-80.

Basketball and volleyball will be the main events and tournaments played at the complex. Taylor says the facility will be used for other sports like soccer and aquatics also.

Corporate partnerships and private donations helped fund the facility.
